Lerøy harvested 186,600 tonnes of salmonids in 2021
The world’s fourth-largest salmon farmer, Lerøy Seafood Group, harvested 186,600 gutted weight tonnes of salmon and trout in Norway last year - an increase of 15,800 gwt compared to 2020 - it said in a trading update today.
Lerøy harvested 44,000 gwt (2020: 35,000 gwt) of salmonids in its northern region, Lerøy Aurora; 72,600 gwt (67,900 gwt) in central Norway (Lerøy Midt); and 70,000 gwt (68,000 gwt) in its southern region (Lerøy Sjøtroll). The annual harvest volume included 25,100 gwt (28,000 gwt) of rainbow trout.
In the fourth quarter, Lerøy harvested 51,300 gwt, (48,300 gwt) including 8,000 gwt (7,200 gwt) of trout.
More cod
The figures don’t include Lerøy’s share of the 33,000 gwt of Atlantic salmon harvested in 2021 by Scottish Sea Farms, which the company owns 50/50 with SalMar.
Lerøy’s caught fish division captured 71,500 tonnes of wild fish, up from 68,400 tonnes in 2020. The catch included 26,600 tonnes of cod, an increase of 3,000 tonnes compared to 2020.
