Norwegian salmon farmer SalMar harvested 42,700 gutted weight tonnes in Norway and Iceland in the first quarter of 2025, it said in a trading update today. That’s a fall of 10,200 gwt (19%) compared to the same period last year

The volume doesn’t include its share of salmon harvested by Scottish Sea Farms, which SalMar owns 50-50 with Lerøy Seafood Group.

SalMar’s Q1 harvest volumes were:

  • Farming Central Norway: 21,100 gwt (Q1 2024: 27,000 gwt)
  • Farming Northern Norway: 19,300 gwt (17,500)
  • SalMar Ocean: 1,200 gwt (4,800)
  • Icelandic Salmon: 1,100 gwt (2,800)

“As communicated during the last quarterly presentation in February, the focus has been on building biomass during the period. Therefore, most of the volume has been harvested late in the quarter, and there has also been a need to harvest fish due to fish welfare,” SalMar stated.

The company’s full Q1 2025 report will be released on May 20.
