The company is six months into the 18-month build of the £93 million facility, which will supply feed to Scotland, Ireland, Norway and the Faroes.

MH Scotland business development manager, Steve Bracken, said work was progressing according to schedule.

"We've reached level 5, we've still got level 6 to do and the roof and cladding. We have around 100 people working on site," he said.

The liquid tank storage and raw material silo foundations are complete. All other foundation work on warehouses is ongoing, and marine works are imminent.

Advertised the day widely

The site is open to the public today from 2pm to 7pm. Bracken said: "We've advertised the day quite widely locally, and on local radio, so that anyone who's interested in a job with us can just come in and find out more about it.

"For other people who just want to see how the feed plant is coming on, we've got a minibus that will take them round the site and let them have a look at it at close quarters."

The feed mill will employ 55 people when it begins operation in the second half of 2018. It will have an annual capacity of 170,000 tonnes.
