The first salmon arrive in Havfarm
On the night of July 25, Norwegian salmon farmer Nordlaks carried out the first delivery of fish to its pioneering Havfarm in Norway.
Six weeks after arrival in Norway, the first salmon have now been released into the Havfarm. Preparations for the release of the fish have gone according to plan, says Nordlaks on its website.
During week 31, three of the six units on Havfarn will be brought into use, and all the fish should be released into Havfarm during the month of August.
“Until now, it has been a hectic period with a lot of personnel on board for completion and preparation for releasing the fish into Havfarm. We are now on track to finishing the release by September,” says captain André Grøtta in Nordlaks.
2.3 million fish
The salmon stocked into Havfarm are about 2 kilos on average and has been moved from the Grøtøya nursery by Fiskebøl in Hadsel municipality in Norway.
The fish are monitored and fed from Nordlaks' operations center on Børøya in Hadsel.
During the month of August, the goal is to have released a total of 2.3 million salmon into Havfarm. The first harvest is scheduled to take place around New Year.
