Salmon farmer pitches in for soccer centre
The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) has provided Tarbert Soccer Centre with funding for new kit and equipment through its latest round of Community Fund awards.
The donation has enabled the soccer centre to buy clothing which will help enable outdoor training to continue all year round. It has also helped towards purchasing additional training equipment, including new footballs.
SSC’s Community Fund offers employees the chance to nominate local businesses, groups and charities that encourage and support health and wellbeing in the local community for a grant of up to £250. The funding was awarded following a nomination by Donnie Sinclair, committee member and coach at the Soccer Centre and area manager for SSC at Loch Fyne.
‘A big help to us’
Susan McCrae, secretary at Tarbert Soccer Centre, said children who attend Tarbert Soccer Centre would benefit greatly from the award.
“Tarbert Soccer Centre provides an inclusive environment which contributes to children’s physical, mental and social wellbeing. As a community group led solely by volunteers, this funding is a big help to us.”
Most of Scotland’s farmers run schemes to provide grants for the communities in which they operate, although the Scottish National Party (SNP) would like to see them contribute “much more”.
In its manifesto for next month’s Scottish Parliament election, the SNP said that if it is returned to power it will explore how a Norwegian-style auction system for new farm developments might generate significant income for various purposes including providing “real community benefit on islands and in remote rural areas”.
