Strong quarter for Scots exports

Scottish salmon exports to two of its three largest markets have experienced dramatic upturns in the first quarter of 2016.

Indeed, according to figures from the SSPO, when compared to the previous Q1, sales to France rose by 30%, to 5,704 tonnes, worth £29.4 million; while sales to China leapt by 97% to reach 2,490 tonnes, worth £13 million.

Exports to the US, however, fell slightly - from 6,752 tonnes, worth £36.4m, to 6,525 tonnes, worth £34.6 million.

Overall, export volumes rose from 16,652 tonnes to 18,418 tonnes, while the value of these exports rose from £82.5 million to £95.8 million.
