Key players missing from Scottish Pavilion
Brussels: Some of the most prominent players in the Scottish aquaculture industry, as well as their political representatives, are conspicuous by their absence at this year’s Seafood Expo Global.
Although most of the main salmon producers and processors are present at the impressive new-look Scottish Pavilion there are a few key players who have pulled out of this year’s event.
Scottish Sea Farms, who were scheduled to have a stand in the Pavilion, have not materialised – word is that being Norwegian owned – by Leroy and Salmar – the company has pulled out in line with the policies of its parent firms.
Perhaps more surprisingly, the only representative of the Scottish Salmon Producers’ Organisation (SSPO) to be present is Pierre Maurage, Scottish Quality Salmon Project Manager, with Chief Executive Scott Landsburgh deciding not to come at the last minute – apparently due to the fact that the Scottish Fisheries Secretary Richard Lochhead is not scheduled to attend this year.
Equally the SSPO’s new Chair, Anne MacColl, is not in attendance.
Despite this, however, the Scottish Pavilion is proving popular as ever, with Scottish seafood proving a popular draw for buyers and passers-by alike.
