Record fall in Norwegian salmon prices
Norwegian salmon prices have seen a record drop in the past week, with the spot price falling by NOK 21.50/kg to NOK 99.80/kg (£8.24).
The previous record was a fall of NOK 12.13/kg in week 22 in 2018, according to Fish Farming Expert’s sister title, Kyst.no.
This follows weeks of record high prices for salmon. The price in week 19 is still NOK 26.02/kg higher than in the same week last year.
Export price
The export price for fresh salmon in week 19 fell to NOK 97.61/kg, figures from industry statistics provider Akvafakta show.
This was down by NOK 11.08 compared to the previous week but up by NOK 26.45 (37% ) compared to the same week in 2021.
The average spot price for the year is NOK 89.29/kg, compared to NOK 56.57 a year ago.
Some 24,600 tonnes (round weight) of salmon were exported in week 19, up 7.8% from the same week in 2021.
So far this year, 464,757 tonnes have been exported, 3.7% less than at the same time a year ago.
As of week 13, some 327,000 tonnes of feed had been sold, 7% less than last year in the same period.
