SalmoBreed signs deal with Lerøy

SalmoBreed has signed a 10-year agreement with Lerøy – one of the world's top three salmon producers – to provide genetic stem into its production sites.

The agreement will see the Lerøy team start breeding with SalmoBreed's genetic lines, producing SalmoBreed strain ova for sale to companies within the Lerøy Group.

SalmoBreed is a subsidiary of Benchmark Holdings’ Breeding & Genetics division, but the agreement will not make a material financial contribution to Benchmark in the short term. However, the Directors believe that it is of strategic importance to Benchmark's position in the market as the contract represents an endorsement of SalmoBreed's ability to produce world-class salmon strains, and is an encouraging collaboration with one of the largest producers in the industry.

Benchmark's CEO, Malcolm Pye, commented: "We are very pleased to have reached this agreement with such a prominent player in the space, which is testament to the great work being done at SalmoBreed and in our Breeding & Genetics division as a whole. The opportunity to collaborate with Lerøy and have SalmoBreed's genetic lines distributed to its Group establishes SalmoBreed's position as an industry leader."
