Highest price in five years
Chilean Trim-D salmon fillets were traded at an average price of US$ 5.83 per pound during week 20 - a significant increase compared to the previous week and the ninth week in a row with a price over $5 per pound in the US.
The average price represents a 4.5 per cent or 25 cents increase compared to the price seen in the previous week. It is also 53.8 per cent higher than in the same week of 2015 (US$ 3.79) and 7 per cent over the same week of 2014 (US$ 5.45).
The previous highest price in the past five years was US$ 5.61 per pound and corresponds to the week 24 in 2013.
According to the weekly report published by SalmonEx, the Brazilian market price observed a US$ 0.03 decrease. The size 10-12lb (4.5-5.4kg), being the most representative, averaged US$ 7.67/kg.
In the Japanese market, the price of frozen HG coho salmon remained unchanged, while the price of HG trout experienced a ¥ 30 increase. The first averaged ¥ 645 (US$ 5.89)/kg, while the second species averaged ¥ 765 (US$ 6.98)/kg.
