Sandberg and Ewing meeting postponed
A meeting due to be held today in Edinburgh between Norwegian minister of fisheries Per Sandberg and Scotland’s Cabinet Secretary for the Rural Economy and Connectivity Fergus Ewing has been postponed.
A spokeswoman for the Norwegian fisheries department told fishfarmingexpert.com: "Mr Sandberg's flight from Oslo was delayed due to technical issues and he consequently did not make his connecting flight to Scotland. We aim to reschedule, and hope to meet at another time."
Several topics of common interest between Scotland and Norway had been expected to be on the agenda, chief among them Brexit and aquaculture.
Sandberg had earlier told fishfarmingexpert.com: “It’s important for Norway to have a good relationship with our neighbours on the other side of the North Sea. We share many common interests, and it is important to maintain a good cooperation in the future as well. I have good contact with my colleagues in the British isles, and we have a good dialogue.”
Ewing had described the planned meeting as "an opportunity to discuss aquaculture and fisheries issues and also to highlight that whatever the outcome of the Brexit negotiations, Scotland remains committed to working with Norway and other partners on shared agendas, and to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes".
