Norwegian salmon price up to £5 per kilo for first time in eight weeks
The spot price of Norwegian farmed salmon rose by NOK 5.06/kg last week (week 42) and ended at NOK 70.99 (£5.00) per kilo. It has been eight weeks since the salmon price was above NOK 70/kg.
The price is nevertheless NOK 12.45/kg below the same week last year.
And for the first time, the average spot price for the year so far is below the same period last year, with NOK 95.30/kg this year compared to NOK 95.48/kg last year.
Export
In the last two weeks, Norway’s salmon export volumes have decreased somewhat from the all-time high in week 40, but the 36,438 tonnes exported last week was still 5.9% more than the same week a year ago.
So far this year Norway has exported 1.08 million tonnes of salmon (round weight), 0.4% more than last year at the same time. It is only in the last few weeks that the total volume for this year has exceeded last year’s figure.
In the last four weeks alone, almost 10% more has been exported than in the same weeks in 2023.
