Police found a stolen lorry trailer on a side road not far from Gardermoen airport near Oslo.

The trailer was stolen from a parking area in the region and was loaded with salmon valued at approximately NOK 2 million (£143,000).

"It has been emptied. It is a significant load, so this is probably not a random theft," East police district operations leader Gisle Sveen told state broadcaster NRK.

The police believe the trailer was towed from the parking area with a tractor unit that does not belong to the company, and that it was placed on a side road and emptied there.

"It's one thing to take this load, but it is probably a large consignment. So the motive is likely to sell this afterwards, and it is not done by just anyone. So I assume this is both professional and planned."

The police are conducting crime scene investigations and will also collect video surveillance from the area.
