Record-high week 1 spot price for Norwegian salmon
The spot price of Norwegian farmed salmon rose by NOK 14.39/kg in the first week of 2024 to NOK 113.39 (£8.61) per kilo, according to industry statistics provider Akvafakta.
The price was NOK 24.68/kg above the corresponding week last year, and was a new record high for week 1.
Norway exported 18,851 tonnes (round weight) in week 1. This is more than the 15,180 tonnes that were exported the week before, but 28.3% less than the same week in 2023.
The price increase for Norwegian salmon, most of which is exported, can be partly attributed to the Norwegian krone’s fall against other currencies such as the US dollar, euro, and pound sterling. The krone to sterling rate, for example, has dropped by approximately 10.4% over the past year.
