NRS cuts harvest guidance after salmon suffer winter wounds
Norway and Iceland salmon farmer Norwegian Royal Salmon has reduced its projected harvest in Norway for 2022 from 35,000 gutted weight tonnes to 32,000 gwt due to early harvesting for welfare reasons.
“NRS has during the first quarter experienced more biological challenges with winter wounds in the Norwegian operations than normal,” the company said in a market update.
“NRS has for welfare reasons, therefore chosen to accelerate the harvest of the affected fish. This has resulted in a low superior share and lower price achievement than the prevailing market prices might suggest.”
The company said it estimates an operating profit of NOK 115 million (£9.6m) in the first quarter of 2022 due to the low price achievement in the quarter and certain non-recurring costs.
