Reduced costs for Multiexport
The Chilean salmon producer reduced its production costs in Q3, helping to counteract the effects of low prices.
Salmones Multiexport has achieved a 12 per cent reduction in its ex-cage production cost during the first nine months of this year, compared to the same period of 2014. Moreover, the company expects to average an ex-cage production cost of less than US$ 4/kg WFE of Atlantic salmon by the end of this year.
According to the company, this is the main reason of the improvement in its EBIT/kg despite low prices in the period.
At unitary level, Salmones Multiexport recorded an EBIT of US$ -0.50/kg WFE for Atlantic salmon in Q3, compared to US$ 0.05/kg in the same period of 2014. However, there was an improvement of US$ 0.18/kg over the previous quarter (Q2 2015). Meanwhile, the company's trout achieved an operational EBIT of US$ -2.94/kg WFE (US$ -1 10/kg WFE in Q3 2014), with a small volume, which corresponds to amounts of stock from the previous season.
The company sold 14,465 tonnes of fish in the quarter of which 13,968 tonnes were Atlantic salmon (+ 7.0%) and 496 tonnes were trout (-9.3%).
