Petuna farming boss joins Skye salmon producer Organic Sea Harvest

Skye salmon farmer Organic Sea Harvest (OSH) has hired former Mowi Scotland farm manager Robert Wyvill to a new role of chief operating officer.

Published Modified

Wyvill is currently general manager on marine operations for Tasmanian salmon farmer Petuna Aquaculture, where he oversees 91 staff, and will join OSH shortly before its first harvest, expected in May. Petuna recently two gold awards for its Atlantic salmon and ocean trout at the Sydney Royal Fine Food Aquaculture Competition.

Originally from North Uist, Wyvill lived on Skye for five years and worked for Mowi in both Greshornish and Portnalong. He was put in charge of Mowi’s new site at Muck, finishing the cycle with the lowest recorded mortality rate and the highest superior salmon rating at harvest in Mowi history. As a result, he was nominated for Finfish Farm Manager of the Year at the 2018 Scottish Marine Aquaculture Awards.

Coming home

Wyvill said: “I am delighted at the prospect of returning to my roots. I previously lived in Uig and Portree so I am looking forward to bringing my family with me, becoming part of the local community and making our home in this beautiful area.

“Having worked for the past 24 years in aquaculture, I am looking forward to bringing my experience to the role as Organic Sea Harvest works to create an outstanding product and support the overall Scottish aquaculture industry.”

Excellent addition

OSH chief executive Ove Thu said Wyvill had extensive experience in operating exposed sites and would be an excellent addition to the staff at the company’s sites at Culnacnoc and Invertote, off the north east coast of Skye.

Wyvill will be responsible for all OSH’s day-to-day operations, including ensuring the company’s continued growth, negotiating with local suppliers and forward planning. The new role will take over responsibilities currently covered by other team members and bring the number of full-time jobs directly created by OSH up to 13.
