Salmon mortality app launched in Norway

Norway’s Veterinary Institute has launched an app which allows users to keep track of mortality in the country’s salmon industry.

Published Modified

The app will, for the time being, show the total loss per year, categorised by cause of death, and mortality for completed production cycles.

It will also be possible to see figures for either counties or production zones.

Interactive graphs will allow users to study status and development.

The statistics are based on figures reported to Norway’s Fisheries Directorate, in which losses are categorised as dead fish, fish discarded in the processing stage, escapes and “other”.

The app was introduced at the presentation of the Veterinary Institutes’ Fish Health Report 2019.
