Land-based fish farmers sign up with new sales consultancy
Four land-based fish farmers are to use the services of a new seafood sales and consultancy company focused on connecting international sustainable seafood producers with end consumers in North American markets.
Searenity Seafoods has been launched by Lauren Enz, who has 25 years of expertise in US national seafood sales and business line development and was most recently vice president of US sales for the Kingfish Company, which farms yellowtail kingfish (seriola lalandi) in the Netherlands and has plans for an 8,500-tonnes-per-year recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) facility in Jonesport, Maine.
The Kingfish Company is one of Searenity’s clients.
Another client is Pine Island Redfish, which plans to produce red drum in a RAS in Florida from 2025. Pine Island Redfish is run by Megan Sorby, former operations manager of The Kingfish Company’s US subsidiary, Kingfish Maine.
Arctic char and turbot
Matorka, which grows Arctic char in a land-based farm at Grindavik, Iceland, and Stolt Seafarms, which grows turbot and sole in land-based farms in Spain, France, Iceland, and Norway, are also on Searenity’s books, along with Maine seaweed farmer Atlantic Sea Farms.
Today’s consumer demands more accountability and transparency in how their seafood is sourced. Searenity Seafoods is the link to making the connection between fillet and fork
Lauren Enz
Enz’s past positions include director of seafood purchasing at Darden Restaurants, vice president of business development for Mark Foods and vice president of sales/purchasing at Midwest Seafood.
“My passion is bringing the stories of sustainable seafood - the farmers, their innovative technology and diverse species – to chefs, retailers, and national accounts,” said Enz.
“Today’s consumer demands more accountability and transparency in how their seafood is sourced. Searenity Seafoods is the link to making the connection between fillet and fork.”
Ohad Maiman, founder and former chief executive of The Kingfish Company, and chair of Pine Island Redfish, said: “Lauren considers more than just sales. She is committed to high quality, sustainable, and responsible fish farming, and thanks to her unparalleled network and familiarity with the US market, she has been successful in connecting the right buyers to our product.”
