Fish counters convene in BC

This summer, Marine Harvest employees from all over the world met in Campbell River BC to discuss new fish-counting applications.

Biological controllers and planners from Marine Harvest’s global locations gathered in Campbell River last month for a three-day conference about livestock applications AquaFarmer and AquaFuture.

AquaFarmer counts every single fish owned by the company including non-production fish, such as broodstock and the lumpfish that control sea lice.

The applications present a unique opportunity, as all business units are operating on the same versions of the same software globally. The annual conference brings together the power users to discuss desired new features, procedures and practices that can be shared with the global Marine Harvest team as well as the software vendor Steinsvik.

During the conference, attendees toured freshwater and saltwater sites on Vancouver Island. Seeing different operation and design methods help the group in discussion where regional constraints need to be considered. Some of the meeting outcomes included AquaFarmer access on smartphones, auto-importing of data and global common reporting. Taskforces will be formed in the near future to parcel out some of the initiatives coming from the conference.
