Loch Duart shortlisted for Rural Business Award
Sutherland and Uists salmon farmer Loch Duart has again been named as a finalist in the northern section of the Rural Business Awards.
The company, which was runner-up in the Best Food Business category last year, has been shortlisted in the Best Rural Food & Drink Category.
The winner goes through to a national final next year and will be announced at a regional final at The Core, Newcastle University on Friday, October 11.
Loch Duart managing director Alban Denton said being shortlisted was a great honour.
“Awards like the Rural Business Awards are brilliant at highlighting the huge contribution that rural businesses, projects and entrepreneurs contribute to the UK economy,” said Denton.
“Loch Duart is proud to be a Highlands and Islands business which relies on the fantastic talent and hard work of our rural communities. We look forward to meeting some of the other wonderful rural business finalists at the presentation in Newcastle, later this year.”
Record entries
Anna Price, director and co-founder of the Rural Business Awards, said: “The 2019/20 Awards have seen record numbers of entries and it’s encouraging to see so many rural businesses express a desire to celebrate their successes on a regional and national scale.”
Loch Duart is also in the running for one of the Food and Drink Federation Awards 2019.
The company has been shortlisted in the Community Partner category for its Salmon Pool fund which provides funding for charities and projects benefiting people in Loch Duart’s farming areas.
The Salmon Pool is a partnership with Cargill Aqua Nutrition, owner of Loch Duart’s feed supplier, EWOS.
