Loch Duart names new managing director

He takes over from Simon Maguire, who has been interim chief since former managing director Alban Denton left towards the end of last year. Maguire returns to his position as finance director. 

Warrington has been in charge of production for Loch Duart since 2015.

30 years in salmon industry

In that time the company has solidified its fish production and demonstrated very strong environmental performance while producing salmon that is appreciated across the world for its taste and texture, Loch Duart said in a press release.

Warrington has worked extensively across the salmon industry over 30 years in various sales, processing and farming roles.

Warrington said: “I am proud to be managing director of Loch Duart.  Having spent the last six years immersed in the communities of Sutherland and the Uists, I believe I bring a real understanding of the people and the farming techniques which have made this company great.” 

A stronger company

Referring to the impacts of the Covid-19 lockdown, he said: “During this difficult time we’re focused on caring for our people, our salmon, our customers and our communities. We intend to come through this challenge a better, stronger company.”

Loch Duart employs about 110 people and produces around 6,000 tonnes on salmon annually. Much of its produce has in the past gone to the food service market in the UK and overseas, but the closure of restaurants, cafes and hotels because of the Covid-19 pandemic has forced it to look elsewhere.

Sales director Andy Bing recently told BBC Radio Scotland that the firm was focusing more on independent retailers around the UK and online distribution. This includes selling fish via Linlithgow-based butcher Campbells.
