Lass but not least
Scottish Sea Farms (SSF) has taken delivery of a new £500,000 landing craft, the Warness Lass, for use as a feed boat.
Built at Macduff Shipyards in Aberdeenshire, the vessel is destined for SSF’s remote Eday site, in Orkney, which is due to expand.
The vessel is 14.95 metres long and 5.6 metres wide, has two 230hp engines and is capable of carrying 21 tonnes of deck cargo.
Richard Darbyshire, SSF’s Orkney Regional Manager, commented: “This latest vessel is part of the planned expansion of the Eday site to 12 cages and 1900T of production capacity that was granted planning permission in September 2014. We are continually investing in our staff and equipment at Scottish Sea Farms and this new vessel will assist us in meeting an ever increasing demand for our high quality salmon.”
MacDuff’s Matthew Watt told Fish Farming Expert: “We are delighted to hand over the Warness Lass to Scottish Sea Farms Orkney Division. It is the third vessel of this series to be delivered to SSF in the last two years and has been another great project for the shipyard. The Warness Lass has been built to our usual standard with a lot of care and attention from our team and we hope that it performs well for SSF for many years to come”.
