Kingfish Co extends deal for US fish farm project
Yellowtail grower The Kingfish Company has signed a new contract with Ramboll Americas for pre-construction design and engineering services for its new recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) facility at Jonesport in Maine in the United States.
The Kingfish Company, which grows yellowtail at its Kingfish Zeeland RAS plant in the Netherlands, plans to produce between 6,000 and 8,000 tonnes in the US annually.
It has already worked with Ramboll, a Denmark-headquartered global engineering, design and consultancy company, on the early stages of the project.
“Based on collaboration with Ramboll over the past year, and their experience with RAS facilities in Scandinavia, we are confident in this global partnership and the anticipated operational results of our advanced RAS technology facility in Maine,” the fish farmer’s founder and chief executive Ohad Maiman said in a press release.
Large-scale production
Ramboll said that while the project is the largest of its kind for Ramboll in the Americas, the company has led several major projects in the aquaculture industry around the world. Most recently, Ramboll was selected to help design and build the first large-scale, land-based salmon farm in Sweden.
