Ex-AKVA Scotland and SAIC executive lands new role
Jason Cleaversmith, a former managing director of salmon farming supplier AKVA Scotland, has been appointed executive director, incubation and infrastructure, of the Prince Edward Island (PEI) BioAlliance in Atlantic Canada.
Cleaversmith, who will take up the role from June 21, will be responsible for the Emergence Bioscience Business Incubator as well as hold strategic responsibility for the various BioAlliance facilities and equipment initiatives currently under way and planned.
“Jason is no stranger to the PEI Bioscience Cluster community and has an extensive network both nationally and internationally,” said Rory Francis, chief executive of PEI BioAlliance in a press release. “We look forward to have someone with his vast experience join the team.”
Most recently Cleaversmith was vice president health and nutrition for the Center for Aquaculture Technologies and general manager of Canadian operations.
SAIC
Past jobs include director of operations and business development at the Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC), and head of Novartis Aqua Health in PEI overseeing manufacturing and R&D. He was also an industry expert with innovative aquaculture accelerator HATCH Blue.
Previously, Cleaversmith led the bioscience portfolio on behalf of the government of Prince Edward Island as senior investment manager. He currently sits on the board of the University of Prince Edward Island’s technology transfer office (Synapse) and on the Innovate UK Animal Sector Advisory Board.
PEI BioAlliance is a private sector-led not-for-profit organisation that is responsible for developing and coordinating the strategy for the growth of the Prince Edward Island Bioscience Cluster.
Its strategic priorities include attracting new business, job creation, export revenue growth, investments in R&D, and attraction of private capital investments.
