The 25.5m vessel, designed by MacDuff Ship Design and to be named Kiera Fiona, will be delivered in September and will be almost identical to her sister vessel, Gina Mary, which is due be delivered in May.

Ben Wilson, MD of the Mull-based company, explained to Fish Farming Expert: “She’s designed for a range of workboat activities – and can be fitted with mechanical delousing treatment systems or ISO tanks, for example – and is well suited to heavy site service work.

“Everything is getting heavier at the moment and some of our current vessels are sometimes struggling,” he adds.

The firm has 9 vessels currently in the water, so the two impending arrivals from Havyard will take their fleet size to 11.

Although the bulk of their work is in Scotland, Ben is keeping his options open.

“The Kiera Fiona has been built to comply with Norwegian regulations so could easily operate in Norway, though the plan is still to be based mainly in Scotland,” he says.

Lars Conradi Andersen, sales director at Havyard Ship Technology, explained to kyst.no that the deadline to deliver the new vessel is tight, “but we have an advantage that we already built a similar workboat, and the lessons learned from that come in handy now”.

The two vessels are being built at Havyard Ship Technology's shipyard in Leirvik in Sogn, and the contracts are worth more than NOK 30 million (£2.8 million).
