Mowi gives wellboat firm its first Chilean contract

The wellboat company, Intership, has signed a long-term charter contract with Mowi Chile for the vessel Kirsti H, to be renamed Inter Fiord and to be acquired by Intership in June 2020.

The agreement represents the beginning of Intership’s operations in Chile.

Inter Fiord is a modern wellboat delivered from the Solund yard, Norway to Erko Seatrans AS in February 2017. It has a capacity of 1,800m³. Following the vessel’s acquisition, total fleet capacity will increase to 11,000m³.

Seven wellboats

Intership - headquartered near Aalesund in Norway - was established in 2014 and built its activity through hiring in wellboats, then chartering them out to customers in Norway, Scotland and Canada.

Following the entry of Alchemy Special Opportunities as majority owner in May 2018, Intership has acquired seven wellboats, including the Inter Fiord, and invested about NOK 1.25 billion (£105m).

Largest customer

The company’s vessels include the 2,000m³-capacity wellboat Inter Caledonia, which is on a long-term charter to Mowi Scotland, and it has vessels operating in Norway, Scotland, Iceland and both the east and west coasts of Canada.

“We are very pleased to be awarded yet another contract with our largest customer, Mowi. It is a vote of confidence for us, and the fact that Inter Fiord will be placed in Chile shows that our international strategy pays off,” said chief executive Ole Peter Brandal in a press release:

“We are happy to start the operation in Chile with a quality vessel and a world leading fish farmer, and we are looking forward to further expansion in Chile.”
