Mowi extends Innovasea partnership with new global agreement

US company is now the preferred supplier of equipment and software for environmental monitoring to all of the salmon farmer's locations

The agreement between Mowi, the world's biggest salmon farmer, and Boston-based Innovasea builds on a history of close collaboration.

Mowi has already implemented Innovasea's environmental monitoring systems at several locations and will continue to expand their use as part of the Mowi 4.0 Smart Farming initiative.

"We are pleased to build on our partnership with Mowi as they continue to lead the way in the aquaculture industry with data-driven methodology," said Tim Stone, vice president and general manager of aquaculture intelligence at Innovasea. He added that Innovasea looks forward to contributing to increased efficiency and sustainability.

Real-time data

Innovasea's technology collects real-time data on environmental factors such as dissolved oxygen, salinity, and temperature, which is sent to the cloud-based platform RealFish Pro. Here, an environmental monitoring dashboard allows tracking of water quality across locations and alerts operators to unfavourable conditions. This enables operators to optimise feeding and protect the fish, even when they are not physically present.

"As the industry is today, one must continuously innovate to meet environmental and operational challenges," said Arnt Mjøen, Mowi's group IT manager for its Feed and Farming divisions.

"Innovasea has made it easy to analyse and act on our data in both RealFish Pro and our own platform, MowiInsight."

Better insight

When new sensors and systems are added, Mowi gains increasingly better insight into the environmental conditions around its facilities, making decision-making more targeted.

"Continuous information about the living conditions of the fish is important to ensure good welfare and make informed decisions," said Henrik Trengereid, Mowi group manager for seawater production technology.

With offices globally, including in Norway, Innovasea provides support to Mowi locations worldwide.
