Scotland’s US sales slump
Scottish salmon exports fell to 11,757 tonnes in the first 10 months of the year, worth $91.14 million - a decrease of 18.9% in terms of volume and 27% in terms of value compared to the first ten months of the previous year.
Chile was the largest exporter of salmon and trout to the USA in the first ten months of this year selling 114,708 tonnes - an 0.8 per cent decrease compared to the same period of the previous year (115,655 tonnes). The largest decrease was in the exports of fresh whole Atlantic salmon.
Canada was in second place, with returns of US$ 512.75 million and 77,279 tonnes. Those results represent 22.0 and 44.6 per cent increases in value and volume, respectively, compared to the first ten months of 2014. The largest increases were in fresh whole Atlantic salmon.
According to the trade data published by the Fisheries Statistics Division of the NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service, Norway was in third place with sales of US$ 299.13 million and 33,756 tonnes. Those numbers represent 16.2 and 50.6 per cent increases in value and volume, respectively. In this case, the largest increases are seen in frozen fillets and fresh whole of Atlantic salmon.
Meanwhile, China (China, Hong Kong and Taipei) was in fourth place, with returns of US$ 190.03 million and 31,014 tonnes. These figures represent 7.3 and 12.6 per cent decreases in value and volume, compared to the first ten months of 2014. The largest increase was in frozen fillets of salmon NSPF.
In total, the US imported 294,385 tonnes of salmon and trout products, worth US$ 2,360.69 million, representing a 7.1 per cent decrease in value and an 8.7 per cent increase in volume and a 7.1 per cent , compared to the same period of 2014.
