Close collaboration helps Hofseth make more from existing factory space

Egg-to-table salmon and trout producer Hofseth is using technology to increase grading capacity and flexibility at its Hofseth Processing facility in Ålesund, Norway, without extending the building.

Hofseth said it worked in close collaboration with suppliers Marel, MMC First Process, and Samey Robotics to design a solution that ensures it can keep up with growing internal demand and also position the company as a strategic partner for external opportunities.

As part of the scale-up, Hofseth is moving from a single lane Marel grader to a dual lane Marel whole fish grading solution with integrated AXIN software.

Continuous output

MMC First Process will deliver a spiral tank for cooling and continuous output of fish, along with an empty box solution with 200% increased storage capacity, and a high-speed lid applicator. Packing robots from Samey Robotics with AXIN Dynamic Palletising software are completing the process. Installation is due to commence in the coming months.

The announcement of the Hofseth expansion comes approximately a year after Marel and MMC First Process formed a strategic partnership to offer the benefits of their combined expertise to customers.

The partnership offers a one-stop-shop to simplify the purchasing of solutions from aquaculture through further processing, including equipment, software, and on-going support for customers.

Hofseth said it is thrilled to be benefiting from two well-known, trusted suppliers working in alliance to improve efficiency and quality to boost its business.
