Gilpin Bradley, managing director of Wester Ross Salmon and chair of the SSPO, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Grieg Seafood into the SSPO.

“Through the SSPO, the industry can demonstrate its unparalleled investment and commitment to research, technology and fish health as well as the showcasing the significant economic benefits it brings to rural Scotland. Having Grant and his team within the SSPO will add more weight to that mission.”

Value to the industry

GSS managing director Grant Cumming said: “I’m very pleased for the company to be part of the SSPO membership. While companies each pursue their own business strategies, it is evident that having a strong trade organisation to research, refine and represent our views on common issues is vital.

“The SSPO offers considerable value to the industry across its technical, sustainability and communications functions and I’m sure we will benefit by contributing to its activities.”

The SSPO’s chief executive, Julie Hesketh-Laird, said: “It’s fantastic to welcome Grieg into SSPO membership, confirming our position as the authoritative voice of the industry. We look forward to working with Grant and his team.”

Grieg Seafood was previously a member of SSPO as Hjaltland Seafarms but was excluded due to a contravention of the voluntary Code of Good Practice relating to the source of its smolts. The company is now fully compliant with the Code and its requirements on smolts.
