Mowi Scotland adding five new boats to fleet
Mowi Scotland is this week taking delivery of two new general service boats, with a further three due later in the year.
The 1907LUVs (landing utility vessels) have been built by Nauplius Workboats in the Netherlands, which has previously supplied several other vessels to the company.
A Mowi spokesperson said: “The Mowi Supporter and Beinn Mowi have left Holland and are heading to North Uist and the South Region respectively.
Living on board
“We have the Beinn An Oir and the Mowi Atlantic to be delivered over the next 6-8 weeks, with another vessel on build with Nauplius to be delivered in the summer period.
“All vessels are general service boats servicing an area that can help out with all farming duties. They are built to provide staff living quarters on board, working a shift system (two weeks on, two weeks off).”
The Beinn An Oir is destined for the Argyll area and the Mowi Atlantic for South Uist, and the final vessel will service Mowi’s new site at Scalpay.
Hydrolicer
Last year Mowi Scotland took delivery of three larger 27-metre x 12-metre landing utility vessels from Nauplius.
The Beinn Dearg is used as a service vessel and for transporting hydrogen peroxide for use in treating salmon for amoebic gill disease (AGD); the Beinn Bhreac operates between Harris and Lewis and the mainland; and the Beinn Nebheis is fitted with the most recent iteration - version six - of the Hydrolicer.
