An unknown number of fish with an average weight of 3 kg are suspected to have escaped from a farm operated by the world’s second largest salmon farmer, SalMar.

The company discovered damage to one of the cages at its Setevika N site which is located in Julsundet by the Moldefjord in Møre and Romsdal county, Norway.

“The extent of the escape has not been clarified. The fish in the cage in question have an average weight of just over 3 kg. The company has deployed recapture nets at the site,” Norway’s Directorate of Fisheries said.

The Directorate of Fisheries said it will follow up the case with supervision at the company.
