Barge is last piece in the jigsaw for salmon farmer

A new 350-tonne capacity feed barge is due to arrive at Organic Sea Harvest’s Invertote salmon farm off north east Skye this week after being towed from Inverness and around the north of Scotland.

The construction and delivery of the Gael Force SeaMate barge was delayed due to Covid restrictions, and the Invertote site’s technicians have been hand feeding fish for the past few months.

The barge, which has been designed and painted to comply with strict planning conditions for the site, completes Gael Force’s £4 million contract to fully equip the salmon farmer’s Invertote and Culnacnoc sites, although it continues to provide maintenance and advice to OSH.

The barge is the 93rd SeaMate concrete barge produced by Gael Force at its yard on the River Ness.

Organic Sea Harvest expects to harvest its first organic salmon in May.
