Norway: Rostein crewman dies in boarding accident
A man has died after falling into the sea while boarding a vessel operated by wellboat company Rostein in Norway.
“There has been a tragic incident in connection with boarding one of our vessels. The police are investigating the case and we have no opportunity to comment further now,” Rostein vice president Glen Bradley told Fish Farming Expert’s Norwegian sister site, Kyst.no.
The deceased was in his 50s, and from the Møre and Romsdal area.
Rescue bid
Police were notified at 03.47 on Friday that a man had fallen into the sea in Sortland municipality, in the country’s northern region.
People who were with the man immediately started work to get him out of the sea and resuscitate him, but he was declared dead at the scene, Nordland police said.
Tragic accident
The man’s next of kin have been notified, and the boat’s crew members are now being taken care of by the municipality’s crisis team. The police stated that the accident happened when the man was about to board the boat.
“At present, we have no evidence to say that this is anything other than a tragic accident,” said police. Officers have opened an investigation.
