Chewing over the resilience of fish farm feed supply

The resilience of supplies of conventional aquafeed ingredients, and how the feed industry is handling the challenges and changes to farmers’ sourcing policies will be examined in an on-line meeting on Wednesday.

It will also look at the challenges faced in marine ingredient supply chains and the novel alternative aquafeed ingredients being developed.

The 90-minute “bite-size” meeting is being organised by the Aquaculture Common Issues Group (ACIG) of seafood marketing organisation Seafish and runs from 2pm to 3.30pm and includes presentations from three speakers.

Changing mind-sets

Helena Delgado Nordmann, responsible sourcing manager for retail chain Tesco, will talk about how the supply chain views the changing philosophy of standard setters in regard to aquafeed composition and sustainability.

Marcela Navarro, chief executive of the Feed-X project, which aims to revolutionise alternative feed solutions for aquaculture, will give her view of the progress that is being made by innovators, and the challenge that comes with changing mind-sets to speed up adoption of novel feed ingredients.

Finally, James Deverill, commercial and country director CQN Scotland for EWOS / Cargill Aqua Nutrition, will talk about building resilience into feed ingredient souring policies and the associated operational challenges / opportunities.
