The incident took place on the morning of 19 June, however at this stage it is believed that no salmon have actually escaped from the pens.

Under Scottish government regulations, fish farms must make an initial notification to Marine Scotland if they think there is a reasonable chance that fish may have got through a hole in a net.

A final notification must then be made withing 28 days, confirming the number of fish - if any - that are believed to have escaped.

The Poll Na Gille site stocks Atlantic salmon with an average weight of 2kg.

On 2 March this year, 283 lumpsucker fish were reported to have escaped from the same site.
