Fish farming in Canada and disease diagnosis on vets' webinar agenda
The Fish Veterinary Society (FVS) will present the second in a series of free webinars tomorrow, featuring talks from Canada fish vet Dr Mykolas Kamaitis and Professor Brian Quinn from the University of the West of Scotland.
Kamaitis is a former vet and fish health manager with salmon farmer Mowi Canada West and is now a private practice aquaculture veterinarian and owner of Belwood Lake Veterinary Services, working with fish farmers in Ontario.
He will give a talk entitled Fish Health Management in the Canadian Aquaculture Industry, giving an overview of the major fish health challenges in Canadian aquaculture as well as the management strategies employed to address these challenges will be presented. There will be a focus on the British Columbia salmon industry and the Ontario trout industry.
Clinical chemistry
Quinn’s presentation, entitled Clinical chemistry to assess fish health in aquaculture, will describe the development and use of non-lethal, blood based clinical chemistry methods for rapid fish health assessment and diagnosis in the aquaculture industry. The use of this technology for both continuous health monitoring and diagnosis shall be discussed, and data presented.
Kamaitis’ presentation begins at 2pm BST, and Quinn’s at 2.30pm.

The FVS is presenting free webinars on the first Thursday of every month from May until September in place of its annual spring conference, which it has been unable to hold because of Covid restrictions.
