Development licence decisions made
Three Norwegian companies have had their development licence applications rejected, although a fourth company, MNH-produksjon, was given a green light on for their Aquatraz project, kyst.no reports.
According to Norway's Ministry of Fisheries GIFAS Marine, Akvadesign and Gigante Offshore received news of their rejections on June 30th.
MNH-production, however, received a green light for their Aquatraz project – a semi-closed facility in the sea. The company wants to build a pilot cage first and then start the parallel development of up to six plants. They have applied for eight development permits.
Rejected
Akvadesign applied for 10 licences in December for the development of compact closed facilities. In its reasons for the refusal, the Ministry of Fisheries points out that the project has uncertainty and several other problems.
GIFAS applied on 26th January for four development licences for submersible SubFishCages and got their application rejected. Meanwhile Gigante’s Super Tank Cage application was rejected because the Directorate felt the concept is so deficient that it is not possible for them to assess whether the project can contribute to the development of technology that benefits the aquaculture industry as a whole. They also cannot assess whether the application is covered by the purpose of the granting of development permits.?
