Production costs slashed
Multiexport has reduced its Atlantic salmon production costs by over US$ 0.50 per kg in the past two years, thanks to improved biological results. Yield of produced kg WFE per smolt and accumulated mortality rate are among the most enhanced indexes.
Salmones Multiexport recorded a 9.1 per cent decrease in its production costs in 2015 compared to the previous year - from almost US$ 4.4/kg WFE of Atlantic salmon in 2014 down to around US$ 3.8/kg WFE by the end of last year.
According to the company, this is the consequence of an improved biological performance due to, for example, higher yield of produced kg WFE per smolt, lower accumulated mortality rate, as well as larger average harvest weights and growth rates.
While in 2013 the Chilean salmon industry averaged a yield of 3.51 kg WFE produced per smolt of Atlantic salmon, it averaged 4.23 kg WFE produced per smolt in 2015 and Multiexport recorded 4.85 kg WFE during 2014.
Likewise, while the local industry registered an accumulated mortality rate close to 19 per cent in 2013, the Chilean companies have managed to reduce that figure to an average of 14 per cent in 2015, and Multiexport has gone even further, reducing it to an accumulated mortality rate of about 8 per cent, said the company.
Similar improvements have been seen in the average harvest weight, which is close to 5.2 kg in Multiexport.
