Cooke Scotland orders new vessel from Norway
Moen Marin will deliver a service and feeding boat to the Orkney and Shetland salmon farmer
The vessel, a NabWork 1785, was designed by Marin Design in collaboration with Moen Marin and Cooke Scotland, Moen Marin said in a press release.
It is a multi-purpose, single-hull, steel-built vessel designed to easily switch between feeding and on-site service work. The vessel’s design and onboard equipment are tailored to the needs of the Cooke crew.
NabWork 1785 is being built and will be delivered in accordance with workboat code 3 and the latest Tier III requirements in terms of emissions and efficiency.
The on-board feeding system is supplied by ScaleAQ and consists of four silos with a capacity of 60 m³. By removing the silos and installing a deck hatch, the vessel can be adapted for service work within a few hours.
Demanding environments
The vessel will serve some of Cooke Scotland's most weather-prone locations in Orkney, and is estimated to be operational by June 2026.
“Farming locations in Scotland are not always comparable to other locations in the industry. The conditions in some locations are ideal for producing premium salmon, but not necessarily suitable for remote feeding and monitoring of the fish," said Robin Johansen, sales manager for UK at Moen Marin.
"The vessel is designed exclusively for efficient production of salmon in demanding environments, while ensuring comfort and safety for the crew. The vessel provides the flexibility required for a farmer, as a multi-purpose platform in situations where service capacity is needed."

Improved efficiency
Cooke Scotland manager Stewart Rendall said: “This exciting addition to our fleet will increase efficiency and improve safety for our staff, as well as our capacity to operate in exposed locations off Westray. The larger vessel will effectively replace the two boats we currently use to service the facilities. It has the capacity to carry more feed and deliver it to the fish more quickly, reducing feeding time per cage and enabling the entire facility to be serviced in one day – without the need to return to shore to reload.
"We have a strong collaboration with Moen Marin, who have already delivered two vessels to our fleet, and we look forward to having the third built to the same high standard."
Moen Marin's Johansen said the company was very proud to again be chosen as Cooke Scotland's supplier.
