Cooke launches recruitment drive in Canada
New Brunswick based Cooke Aquaculture, unlike many companies in Canada, is trying to hire workers during the pandemic.
And to accommodate social distancing rules, the company created a coronavirus-style drive-through jobs fair in Saint John this week, CBC reported.
People did not have to leave their cars, but just collected a brochure as they drove past a Cooke Aquaculture stall, attended by (face masked) Cooke employees.
People were invited to leave a resume (CV) or apply for one of the available positions on the spot.
The company’s communications manager, Chuck Brown, said they were looking to recruit up to 100 people, mainly for Cooke’s two processing facilities in Blacks Harbour and Saint George, New Brunswick.
Cooke has salmon farming operations in Atlantic Canada, the United States (Maine and Washington), Chile and Scotland.
Cooke Aquaculture Scotland has also bucked the Covid trend, recruiting around 40 full-time staff since the beginning of the lockdown period, increasing its workforce by around 10%. More vacancies are understood to be in the pipeline.
