During an open house last week, Port Hardy mayor Hank Bood told the crowd that Marine Harvest Canada has committed funding to help with construction of a brand new recreational facility.

Mayor Bood stated to the crowd that it was exciting to have corporate support at an early stage of the $12 million project.

“With this huge financial boost, we’re pleased that an important employer like Marine Harvest agrees with Port Hardy’s vision of building a strong and vibrant community. The donation from Marine Harvest is not only a financial contribution but recognition that the North Island is an area of viable business growth.”

In a press release, Port Hardy District Council said it is thrilled to see local companies offering support for a major investment in the community, and by providing a regional facility, projects such as these will attract and retain professionals and keep the community thriving while attracting new investment.

The new complex will complement existing infrastructure that includes an ice arena and meeting facilities. The proposed Multiplex will provide for the recreation needs of all ages within the District and surrounding area.

Marine Harvest supports the District of Port Hardy’s vision of building a strong and vibrant community with facilities that attract and retain workers and families.

Marine Harvest Canada's MD Vincent Erenst said the investment indicates the level of commitment the company has to the area.

“Like Port Hardy, our company wants to grow, and by investing in this region we can ensure it remains a great place to live – for those living here now and for those yet to arrive.”

“We want to be a part of the excitement that Port Hardy and the surrounding region have to offer. This monetary donation is the largest we have ever provided to one single project, and I think clearly indicates the level of commitment our company has to the area,” said Erenst.
