Norcod works out number after harvesting pen

Approximately 27,500 cod escaped from a net pen in a Norway fish farm operated by Norcod, a count of the remaining fish during harvest has revealed.

Norcod reported the escape at its Labukta site in Nesna municipality in Nordland in November last year, when damage was discovered to one of the net pens.

The company has since harvested the remaining fish in the pen in order to calculate the number of fish that went missing.

The fish had an average weight of just under 3 kg at the time of the escape.

Norcod is conducting recapture operations around the facility with a chartered vessel. Approximately 5,100 farmed cod have been recaptured, and this fishing is still ongoing, Norway’s Directorate of Fisheries said.
