Harvest volumes fall 20%
Chile’s total salmonid harvest volume in the first 11 months of 2016 was 599,000 tonnes – 20.4% lower than in the corresponding months of the previous year.
According to the latest information from the Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca), 460,000 tonnes of this was accounted for by Atlantic salmon (a 16.6% drop), the bulk of which came from the Aysén and Los Lagos regions, which accounted for 276,000 and 135,000 tonnes respectively.
Meanwhile, cumulative harvests of rainbow trout were 65,000 tonnes, a decrease of 27.8% compared to the same period in 2015. The most productive regions trout-wise were the tenth and eleventh regions, with 24,800 and 24,200 tonnes respectively.
Coho harvests totalled 73,400 tonnes, a 33.3% decrease compared to the same period in 2015. Of this 87.5% came from Los Lagos and 12.4% from Aysén.
Ova production
573 million ova (a 14.7% increase) were produced in Chile, of which 62% were Atlantic salmon, 21% coho salmon and 17% rainbow trout. Meanwhile 4.2 million ova were imported – 79% of which were Atlantic salmon originating in Iceland, while 21% were rainbow trout from Denmark.
