Camanchaca targets 73,000 tonnes by 2025
Chilean fish farmer Salmones Camanchaca intends to increase production from an expected 57,000 tonnes (whole fish equivalent) this year to 73,000 tonnes of Atlantic and coho salmon and rainbow trout by 2025.
The company will also spend US $10.2 million on expansion this year, along with $19m on maintenance, it said.
Camanchaca harvested 53,000 tonnes wfe last year, in line with expectations.
The company made an operating loss of $8.8m in the fourth quarter of last year, largely as a result of low salmon prices and higher ex-cage costs caused by mortalities and poor performance of fish that had survived an incident at its Islotes farm in May, when around 85,000 salmon died when a 12-cage module was wrecked by bad weather.
