Chilean slump deepens

The Chilean salmon industry obtained returns of US$ 690 million in the first two months of this year - a decrease of 6.4 per cent compared to the same period of 2015.

Exports were worth 9.4 per cent less than in the first two months of 2014, according to figures from the Central Bank of Chile.

Chile exported US$ 619 million in salmon products (Atlantic and coho salmon), a decrease of 5.5 per cent compared to the same period of the previous year, while the value of rainbow trout exports totaled $70 million, a decrease of 14.6 per cent compared to the first two months of 2015.
