Four salmon farmers die in Chile plane crash tragedy

Four salmon farm workers have been killed in a plane crash in Puerto Montt in Chile.

The Salmones Camanchaca workers died when the small plane crashed on to a house in the city at around 11am local time (4pm BST) today, causing a fire in two buildings and six fatalities, all passengers of the aircraft.

In a press release, Salmones Camanchaca reported “with deep regret that this morning, four people who worked in the Cabudahue and Porcelana salmon farming centres in the Los Lagos region, suffered a fatal accident in a commercial airplane of the Archipelago line in which they were travelling, which took off from the La Paloma airport in Puerto Montt”.

“Our affected workers are Messrs. Erico Oyarzo, Leonel Soto, Gonzalo Navarro and José Vidal. Having received official information, at this time our top executives in Puerto Montt are making contact with relatives to inform them of this tragic news and give them all the help and support they need in these sad times,” said the company.
