Chilean Atlantic salmon exports up 33%
The volume of Atlantic salmon exports from Chile increased by 33% in the first six months of 2018.
Coho salmon showed an increase of 23% and rainbow trout a decrease of 3% in the same period.
The total volume of Chilean exports of salmonids increased by 27%, from 250,000 to 317,000 tonnes, compared to the first half of 2017.
Revenue showed an increase of 10%, from US$2.38 billion to $2.61bn in the same period, according to figures from Infotrade.
Between January and June 2018, Chile’s salmon producers exported 224,833 tonnes of Atlantic salmon worth $1.92bn – an increase of 33% in volume and 12% in value compared to H1 2017.
Atlantic salmon averaged a price of $8.55 / kg FOB (free on board) Chile during the first half of 2018, 16% lower than the $10.15 recorded in the same period of the previous year.
Coho salmon
Chile exported 67,119 tonnes of coho salmon, an increase of 23% compared to the 54,412 tonnes exported in H1 2017.
Revenue reached $439 million, up 21% on the $364m made during the first six months of last year.
The FOB kg of coho salmon recorded an average price of $6.54.
Rainbow trout
The value of exports of rainbow trout reached $249m, a fall of 15.1% compared to the $294m reached in the same period of the previous year.
For H1 2018, the volume of trout exports was 25,141 tonnes, a slight fall compared to the 25,974 tonnes export in H1 2017.
This species recorded an average FOB price of $9.91 / kg, 12% lower than the value registered in the same period of 2017, of $11.3 / kg.
