Diver dies at Chilean salmon farm
A commercial diver died while working at a salmon farm in Chile earlier this month, it has been revealed.
Police divers recovered the body of Cristián González from the Krauss site, some 20 minutes away from Puerto Cisnes in the Aysén region, in an operation lasting several hours. According to website Mundo Acuicola, the diver died after being trapped between the propellers of a boat.
After the tragedy was notified to authorities on December 15, divers from the Special Police Operations Group (GOPE) worked at night and then again in the day to recover the body from under the hull of the boat.
González’s body was transferred to Puerto Cisnes for the development of proceedings and expert opinions by the Legal Medical Service, in the context of an investigation directed by the Prosecutor’s Office to determine the underlying causes of the diver’s death and whether there was third party intervention.
